Senior Quantity Surveyor

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s team on a permanent basis. This role covers various operations across Scotland, offering a hybrid working model with options in either our Livingston or Glasgow offices.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, your primary responsibility will be to provide vital commercial support across all business areas, specifically regarding financial and contractual matters stemming from contract and project management. You will play a crucial role in ensuring our projects are delivered on time and within budget by providing valuable advice and guidance. Additionally, you will engage with clients and external parties on commercial issues, including contract variations, claims, and payments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and issue subcontractor tenders.
  • Aim to optimize project costs while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Develop and manage cash flow forecasts.
  • Handle contract and sub-contract administration.
  • Certify payment applications from subcontractors.
  • Compile costs for compensation events and oversee change management.
  • Assist in preventing disputes with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and process formal documentation for subcontractor payments.
  • Generate valuations for client payment applications.
  • Assist in creating commercial and contractual responses to clients and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and report on contract expenditure compared to budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide feedback on contract pricing, profit, and loss.
  • Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with clients and subcontractors as needed.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience: 3-5 years in a QS or Senior QS role, preferably in engineering or construction.
  • Education: Degree-level qualification or a professional qualification accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Skills: Ability to interpret contract documents, scopes of work, and contract drawings. Proficiency in financial analysis.
