It’s Volunteers’ Week this this week!  People volunteer for a variety of reasons.  Be it, giving back to the community or develop new skills.  However, what can’t be denied is how rewarding it can be.

We’ve sat down to chat with one of our consultants, Andrew Souter, to discuss his volunteering activities.

Volunteer Football Coaching

Andrew volunteers his time on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  He helps coach a local Under 16’s team in Cambuslang – preparing them for games and developing their skills.

Andrew was asked to come and assist in coaching with the boys’ team due to his experience of professional youth coaching.  A family friend who has a son in the team, suggested Andrew come along to a coaching session to share his skills with the boys.  He’s now been there for 3 years.

Football coaching takes up a lot of time and effort from those involved, but nevertheless, it’s exciting and rewarding.  Some of the benefits of coaching football teams include:

  • Making new friends and expanding your social network
  • Developing new skills i.e. patience, determination (controlling children!)
  • Keeping active
  • Feeling good about yourself as a result of helping others
  • Having fun!

FPS Involvement

First People Solutions were delighted to hear about Andrew’s after work/weekend volunteering activities and were keen to support.  FPS will be sponsoring the team by buying their match day strips for the coming season.  This is an exciting opportunity for us to get involved in the local community and indeed, spread awareness of our brand.

This is just another one of the long list of charities and organisations that FPS supports on a regular basis.  We run regular charity events such as bake sales, sponsored dress up days and more.
